Ohio State Championship
Road Run To Be May 15th
All you cycle hounds, who have been
waiting for the good weather and a good
run, can put this date down in your re-
minder book as the big Ohio State Cham-
pionship Road Run is coming up next
month.
The run, an AMA sanctioned event, is
being sponsored by the Triangle Motor-
cycle Club of Marion, Ohio. It is open
to all AMA members, including your
girl friends and wives, who will enjoy a
day of motorcycling over all hard roads
with no danger of scratching the paint or
chrome causing costly replacements later.
This is the second annual running of
the event for the Triangle club, and they
are busy now putting in a lot of hard
work to make it one of the finest runs
you've had the pleasure of riding. There
will be lots of trophies if you’re looking
for a day of motorcycling and a chance
to add another beautiful trophy to the
collection already started.
This is a good chance also to break-in
that new motor, on an all day ride, and
have it ready to hit the road on those
long trips this summer, when the whole
gang is going. So spread the word
around, and don’t forget the date is May
15.
The club has just made their selection
of officers for the new year with Bob
LeMay, pres; Glen Dane, Jr., vice pres;
Glenna LeMay, secy-treas; William Say-
grover, road capt; Forest Martin, referee;
Glen Dane, Jr., club reporter, and the
following to serve as trustees: Corea
Tubbs, Dane and Ted Short.
Pink Wins NE Championship
Riding through a snow storm over 165
miles of roads that varied from the finest
of concrete parkways to snow and ice cover-
ed dirt, at a schedule of 30 miles per hour,
Don "Clock in the Head" Pink turned in a
1000 point perfect score. He varied just 12
seconds at the emergency check, to win the
36th annual Crotona Northeastern States
Championship Midnight Run, and the covet-
ed "Regpink” high score trophy.
Gene Baron, who ran nip and tuck with
Don all through the night, lost a point just
twenty miles from the finish, which was still
plenty good enough to win the passenger
class by a 19 point margin. Brad Waldron
riding under the colors of the New Jersey
Motorcycle Club was top man in the novice
class with a 954 score. All contestants, with-
out exception, proclaimed the contest one
of the most grueling, and at the same time
most interesting, midnight runs of all time.
The pathfinding crew selected nothing
but concrete and macadam roads for the
course that was covered during the hours
or darkness, and then, after a lay over of
80 minutes, left on the final leg of the
course, which turned out to be snow cover-
ed dirt. Needless to say the "Lads” were
busy. But snow, dirt, macadam, concrete,
the route card says "schedule 30 miles per
hour,” and that's just what Don did.
The New Jersey MC team of Brad Wald-
ron, Jack Fitch, and Henry Siegers were
presented with the Metropolitan Harley-
Davidson Dealer’s Association placque for
the winning team with 2791 points. The
AMA trophy for best club participation was
also won by New Jersey.
