David Ray is a mechanic at the service department of
Champion Motorcycles in Costa Mesa, California. As a
mechanic, Dave has the opportunity to see a lot of
bikes from the inside out. Dave is an enthusiastic be-
liever in Bel-Ray's new SI-7. Here is what Dave said
about it.
“I’ve been riding for years, and I’ve used a lot of
other oils, but nothing works as good as SI-2.
With most other oils the plugs will load up and
foul out, but not with Bel-Ray. Bel-Ray’s
SI-2 burns as clean as a four-stroke.
Look at these plugs . . . they are clean.
With SI-2, plugs actually last longer
because you can run ’em till they
wear out. With other oils, you have
to change ’em because they foul
out. I use it in my own Kawa-
saki 750. After 9,000 miles,
I tore it down - the pistons
were clean, there were no
scuff marks on the cylinders,
and there was no noticeable
wear. With Bel-Ray we
have never had any oil fail-
ures. We recommend Bel-
Ray SI-2 to our customers.”
D. Randy Riggs is the Senior Editor of Cycle World
Magazine. It's Randy's job to road test all the new ma-
chines as they are available. There is a difference in
oils, and here are Randy's comments on Bel-Ray syn-
thetic injector oil, SI-7.
“When we would get two-stroke test bikes for
Cycle World Magazine, it used to be embarrassing
to ride them home. I’d stop at a light and when
I’d take off, there was a big cloud of smoke.
People look at you, and things like that give
motorcycling a bad name. Now every two-cycle
street machine I ride, the first thing I do is to
drain the oil and put in Bel-Ray SI-2. After
warming it up I noticed a much quicker throttle
response and a better performing engine and NO
smoking.
We were testing a Kawasaki KH 400 at the
drag strip and we made a couple of runs. I
don’t know what kind of oil was in it,
but we changed to SI-2 and cut two-
"RH tenths of a second off the ET. It runs
noticeably better in Suzukis and Ya-
mahas, too. I use it in my Can-Am
production racer and it stands the
rigors of competition.”
